April Wrap-Up: Gippsland’s Job Hotspots & What Locals Are Searching For

April was a month full of holidays — between Easter and the ANZAC Day long weekend, there was plenty of time off (and let’s be honest, plenty of chocolate too). But that didn’t stop local job seekers from getting active.

In fact, we saw a huge spike in activity across Gippslander — and it’s great to see that kind of momentum building across the region.

Here’s a look at what Gippsland job seekers were searching for, where they were looking, and which industries were buzzing with interest.

📨 716 Job Applications Submitted

That’s up 218% from March — a huge leap in just one month. We put that down to a few things:

  • Continued growth in traffic from across the region
  • Stronger local awareness and support
  • And a big boost in email alerts and targeted social ads, which have brought more people back to the site at just the right time

📍 Top 5 Towns Searched in April

Let’s take a look at where job seekers were focusing their searches — and how that’s shifted since March:

  1. Morwell
Morwell continues to lead the pack. Strong demand for roles in health, government, and trades keeps this key employment hub at the top.
  2. Traralgon
No surprises here. Traralgon remains one of the region’s busiest centres for retail, admin, and hospitality jobs — and it’s drawing plenty of attention across the Latrobe Valley.
  3. Warragul
Up from #5 in March, Warragul is climbing thanks to its steady growth. New housing, a thriving town centre, and job opportunities in education and construction are helping it rise.
  4. Sale
New to the top five this month, Sale is showing strong interest — particularly in public sector, healthcare, and transport roles. A great sign of shifting activity in central Gippsland.
  5. Bairnsdale
Holding steady as East Gippsland’s top performer, Bairnsdale continues to attract job seekers — especially for agriculture, logistics, and community service roles.

Note: Moe, which featured in March’s top 5, just missed out this time but remains a steady performer.

🛠️ Top 5 Job Categories Searched in April

There’s been some movement here too, with a few industries gaining momentum.

  1. Construction & Trades
Up from #3 last month, this category leads the way in April. From builders and sparkies to site supervisors and apprentices, demand for hands-on skills continues to grow.
  2. Retail & Hospitality
Climbing from #4, local shops, cafés, restaurants, and venues are still actively hiring — and job seekers are responding.
  3. Community & Social Services
Down one spot but still strong. Roles in disability support, aged care, youth work, and community outreach remain vital to our region’s workforce.
  4. Transport & Logistics
A new entry in the top five. With demand for drivers, warehouse workers, and logistics staff on the rise, this category has jumped up the list.
  5. Healthcare & Medical
Rounding out the top five again this month. Nursing, allied health, and support roles remain a steady draw, especially across the public health system and aged care providers.

Worth noting: Administration and Support, which topped the list in March, fell just outside the top five in April — but is still a solid performer in terms of search volume.
